Affordable town close to mountains, fun atmosphere, nightlife?
i am graduating college and moving to the mountains to camp, snowboard, hike, bike. wheres a good fun young laid back town with good people and a fun lifestyle and good live music. plus cheap because we are pretty broke. i would like to work for a ski resort teaching lessons or find anything!
14 outstanding ski resorts within an hour (Heavenly, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Kirkwood to name a few).
Heavenly has the best pass deal around $349.00 for an unlimited pass with black out days during only the busiest times of the year (X-Mas, President's Week).
If you want to work at a resort, Heavenly is located in South Lake Tahoe and they hold job fairs in the fall where they try to fill their winter staff positions.
Tahoe has endless miles of mountain biking trails. There are also access gates into the US Forest Service's Desolation Winderness where anything from a couple of hour day hikes to multi-day excursions are possible.
Another thing in South Lake Tahoe's favor is the fact that it is a couple hours from Sacramento and just four hours from San Francisco. There is also a major airport in Reno, NV just an hour away.
As far as night life. South Lake Tahoe sits on the Nevada border, steps away from 24 hour gambling and partying. The casinos offer locals nights during the week and weekends there is always plenty to do.
Traditionally , ski resorts don't pay very well but working here:
would surely make it worthwhile :)
Other places that might be good would be Reno/Tahoe.
and I'm sure there are a bunch of great places in California where you can get a good mix of snow and other lifestyle stuff.
If you looked around, I'm sure you could find a bunch of others online.
