Any chance for Elena Dementieva to win the US Open 2006?(she said it's her favourite tournament)?
Anyway- no. I don't. :)
Her serve is too much of a liability, yes she has some of the best groundstrokes in the business. But she needs to get better on the serve. She went down fairly easy today against Sharapova at Wimbledon. Going into that match she had only 2 aces and 34, I repeat 34 doubles faults. Horrible! Horrible! Horrible!
She needs to dump her mom as coach, and find a real coach that will work on her serve. It's amazing to me that she's a top 10 tennis player with that serve.
I have seen dementieva plays, she has solid grounstrokes and plays really consistent at the back of the court. I noticed that the matches she lost was due to her serves, she does serve a lot of slow second serves which allows her opponent to hit a blasting return, at the same time she also serve a lot of double faults. At this kind of level of play, serving a lot of double faults can really ruined your match.
I believe that there is a grandslam for dementieva because she has already proven that by reaching the finals in both the french open and the us open. As long as she improve her serve, make more first serves and less double faults, plus minimize her unforced error, definitely Elena can win a major especially the US Open
Good luck to her in August!
