Am I running too much?
I run for 60-70 minutes 6-7 days a week. Is this too much? Should I take more days off?
Everyone is different and what works best for you may not work for everyone. Personally, I like to mix it up. Some days I'll run long (2-3 hours)...others I run short (30-40 minutes)...and still others I don't run at all. I would make sure that you have enough rest days in your schedule to prevent injury and re-build muscle. What's your goal? If you want to lose weight...you've got a great cardio foundation! If you want to get faster or train for a marathon, you may want to mix it up a bit. We get stronger through the stress / rest cycle - which means stress your body a bit then rest. Stress can come in the form of faster or longer workouts than what you're used to. Hope this helps. Best of luck!
If you have a dog, instead of running just walk him/her for half an hour. That should do the trick nicely
But, put some variety in you life, your muscles will appreciate it.
Every other day I vary the run with quarter mile sprints, some power walking, running up the steeper trails (I live in Colorado).
Especially the rockier trails, it forces you to pay attention to how high you lift your feet and where you put them down.
Also, if you want to race you'll need to taper off for a week so you'll have more energy on race day.
It's good to have a plan & goals. Write down how many miles you run each day, your heart rate before and after each run, ect.
go to nikerunning.com & you can track your miles and set goals.
or runnersworld.com has a lot of great tools.
Don't forget to eat properly and get plenty of rest!
