Do you think our players (all codes) would attract the money they do if their payments were performance based?

What was john hopowate lookin for?

Some would recieve more, some less. I depends who you're talking about. Some players ask for ridiculous amounts of money that they don't deserve, some get what they pay for, and some greats truly love the game and accept whatever if offered. Sometimes the money they attract impacts on their performance - enhances it if their pay packet gives them a confidence boost, or makes it worse because they slack off a bit...? It comes down, I guess, to reality. If the players are being offered that kind of money, they have got to worth it - whether it's because of their performance, potential, repuatation, the amount of publicity they receive, or even these days, good looks.
